Bridge from the Head to the Heart
We are sure you know by now that we love teaching together. On this course, we got to co-teach about Connections. It was a lot of fun.
The course happened to run over Sukkot, so we incorporated a celebration of this amazing time on God’s calendar by building a sukkah (temporary shelter or tent) in the conference room of the hotel! Everyone took part in building and decorating it. This holiday reminds us that God is our shelter and seemed really appropriate coming right after the storm! It is also a time of great celebration!
One of the most impactful parts of this course is that we really focus on the family aspect and that it is ok to be childlike (not childish!) So one evening, we closed out the program with Tanya reading a Sheila the Sheep book to everyone. We invited them to come forward and sit on the floor for story time, and many of them did! Some people later testified that it was very meaningful to them and they felt they were receiving something that was missing from their childhood.
We had many different workshops for them to participate in creative activities, including crochet. The stories behind each picture and creative project were amazing, as God spoke directly to each person as they were creating. We had string art, sewing, painting, drawing, tissue paper art, and something we call “grab bags” that are bags filled will seemingly unrelated items that God uses to speak directly to people’s hearts.
